His head fell back heavily, eyes closing briefly before they opened again to stare up at the ceiling. Silently, his coffee cup sitting abandoned on the table, whipped cream still in tact, he watched the fan spin round and round. He wondered if it would hurt if he stuck his finger in it. No, that sounded like something Kenny would do. And then he got to thinking about Kenny…
Johnny had been gone awhile now, suddenly, without telling a single soul. The best part of that vanishing act was that he refused to pick up his phone. He really wanted to give his family the illusion that he was dead. It was funny how it seemed no one had noticed he was gone, at first, or at least it felt that way. He thought maybe it would be good to get away from there- home and the family that didn't exactly ever greet him with open arms, save for his huge mother who could barely close her arms anyway because of all the fat protruding in front and all around her. The idea had been foolproof- trot off to some other city in some other state far away where nobody knew him and no one knew his business. Perfect. No fat mama, no stupid-ass pregnant little sister, no mentally retarded brother. No memories.
After finally breaking the surface of his thoughts, he realized he had closed his eyes again. They flickered open, brown and almost angry looking. But no, he was better now. If anyone knew Johnny Wood, they knew that he hated to show the fact that he was feeling anything in any way. So he hid it. Then again, no one knew Johnny Wood, so it was an easy happy act to pull off.
Johnny leaned forward again, raising a hand to brush through his brown hair that lay in waves around his face. He’d cut it once before moving here, but it had only grown back at twice the pace it had before. His chocolate eyes settled down on his coffee, but he didn’t dare drink it. He wasn’t even sure why he had bought it.

Back down, cash out, that's the city for ya _________________ Symphony had only been to starbucks twice since she had been in town. Once because her brother was sick and claimed he needed coffee to get better, but didn't want to leave his bed. The other time because she had needed to get out of the small ass motel room she shared with her brother and cousin. Sure, she loved them, but she needed some alone time. This would be her third time going there, and she was going for the same reason she had gone the second time. After a rude awakening from her cousin, Drew, who was fighting in loud tones with an old friend from back home about weather spiderman or the hulk was better, she knew it was going to be one of those days. Not that anyone around her would know that she was having a bad day. Symphony always acted the same, weather she was happy, or sad, or mad. But she didn't really get mad too often. Mostly, though, she was quiet about her feelings, so it was hard to ever tell anything about her. That annoyed a great deal of people...
Standing up she looked in the floor length mirror across the room, and sat that her hair was pretty much standing up on the top of her head. In order for it to behave she would definitely need to take a shower...but someone was int he shower. A loud sigh escaped her lips, as she grabbed an elastic band, and just threw it into a pony tail. That was so much easier than fighting with it. Plus she was just going to starbucks..it wasn't like she would see anyone...okay, there was a slight possibility she might see Jake, because he always popped up unexpectedly, but she doubted it. Plus he'd seen her looking worse before, it was no big deal.
Throwing on an uncordinated outfit she slipped on her flip flops, told her cousin she was going to starbucks, and walked out, feeling much better as the warm summer air hit her face. She hopped in her cousins car, then stuck the key in the ignition, before driving away. She hadn't exactly asked for permission...but he could always call her on her cell phone and bitch at her if he didn't like it. Chances were, though, he wouldn't care. Unless he had somewhere to be.
Upon reaching her destination she hopped out of the car, put the keys in her pockets, and walked inside. Even if the warm air had felt good only moments ago the cool air of the shop felt even better. The only question was what to order. Well, it was Summer, so iced options were always popular, were they not? At least in the Summer. So she walked up to the counter, feeling extremely nervous. This was the worst part of life. Having to talk to strangers when you ordered things. usually she had someone else do it, but as there was no one with her she was stuck doing it herself.
"Can I have an iced cappuccino?" She asked the person behind the counter, quietly and quickly, but luckily the person understood her, and her drink appeared moments later. She gave the person her money, took her change, and quickly walked over to a table, sitting down, with her heart thumping away in her chest. That moment had been the scariest moment in her life.

The cardboard-like coffee cup he was staring into now was proving to be more depressing than his own thoughts. Johnny lifted his head for only a moment to watch a petite girl nearly shit herself out of nerviousness as she ordered something. He instantly lowered his head again, not a single drop of familiarity running through him. He didn't know much of anyone here yet, and honestly quite liked the feeling. It was a breath of fresh hair, coming from a small town where everyone knew everyone else's business. If there was one thing Johnny hated, it was minding his own business when someone walked up calling his name and grinning stupidly.
For a quick minute, he lifted his brown eyes a bit to glance at the blonde girl he'd noticed earlier. There was nothing else to look at anyway, and he'd become bored with the sight of his untouched coffee. So he pondered on how old the girl must be, and smiled a cruel smile as he recognized how awkward and shy she was. He could tell by her posture, body language, and her weak and feathery voice that barely made it over the sound of the fan spinning overhead. Sitting duck. Johnny could pick people out of a crowd, just to meet them and make fun of them, tease them and break them down. Targeting some girl like this one wouldn't be a challenge at all.
Johnny was simply bored, and there wasn't much more to it. When he wasn't drunk or having sex, he was completely uninterested in life itself. It was almost mindless as Johnny rolled the paper from a straw into a small ball. With as little motion as possible, he pushed the paper ball into the tip of the straw. He aimed, and then fired the little dry paper ball right at the girl's head. It was his immature playfulness that made him drop the straw on spot and pretend he hadn’t done it.

Back down, cash out, that's the city for ya _________________ The fact that the place wasn't all that full was a great relief to the girl. Had it been packed she probably would have turned around and left without even thinking about it. She didn't do well with big crowds...or small ones...or people in general. Well, there were a few people she could talk to without feeling completely scared out of her pants, but mostly people scared the shit out of her. The people she could feel completely comfortable talking to was pretty much just her few friends, her brother, her cousin, and Jake. And everyone else on earth made her feel like running away. Maybe she had anxiety...or paranoia. Or maybe she was just overly shy.
Picking up her drink she took a sip of it. It was pretty good, though she would have preferred some juice, or something of the sort. Of course while most people who were on tour, even merch kids like herself, would have said something alcoholic Symphony said juice. Symphony-Rain had never had anything alcoholic to drink in her entire life, not even at weddings. And she was nineteen years old. Maybe she would have had a drink or two if she didn't have Drew as a cousin...but she did. And poor Drew was pretty much an alcoholic, even if he wouldn't admit it. That was most likely the reason she refused quite plainly to touch a drink.
Most people who were in small places alone usually glanced around, seeing who else was there, even if they didn't notice they were doing it. Symphony was staring straight down at her drink, hoping no one was paying her any attention. She hated people looking at her...or thinking about her, and she was always worrying about what people thought of her. It was rather sad, really. It was also another reason she often wondered if she had paranoia, or something of the likes. Then, as she was wondering it for the millionth time, she felt something hit her head. It was very light, and hadn't hurt, but something had obviously hit her head.
Jerking her head up automatically she looked around, seeing a little rolled up piece of paper on the floor near her chair. A frown took over her lips. She half expected to see a little ten year old kid snickering like they had made the funniest joke ever, but she saw nothing of the sort as she scanned the area, looking for who may have done such a thing to her. Not that she was going to say anything about it. Or do anything at all. She would probably just pretend she didn't even notice anything, even if she saw who had done it. As it was she had her suspicions on a slightly odd looking guy, who looked to her as though he was feigning innocence. But of course she didn't say anything, of even look at him suspiciously. Instead she just looked back down at her drink, and took another sip.

Honestly, he wasn't one for conversation, or making new friends at all. Judging by this little event right here, it didn't seem like he'd be any good at it even if he did try. After shooting the paper ball at her, Johnny watched her reaction inconspicuously. She looked around, almost like she was terrified. Johnny had to bite down his urge to chuckle, or at least smirk. He couldn't help but to wonder why she seemed so paranoid and nervous, and why she had seemed on the brink of petrification from being hit with a spitball.
He couldn't really put a finger on the reason why she attracted him so much. Maybe it was the aura of innocence that clung to her like wet plastic. She looked as though she was a gift from god, pure in every way. She hadn't even gotten angry from the small piece of wadded up paper that had almost gotten stuck in her pretty blond hair. Was she honestly that anti social.
Again, he crumpled up another piece of paper that encased a straw, and blew it straight at her. This was going to go on forever unless she said something to him about it.

Back down, cash out, that's the city for ya _________________ Symphony kind of figured the guy would give up after she didn't show much of a reaction. Maybe it was just hopeful thinking, though, because right as she was about to take another sip of her drink she felt yet another was of paper hit her. A small frown tugged at the corner of her lips. This time she was almost positive it was the guy she'd thought it was the first time. She turned her head quickly towards him, her frown becoming even more defined. Why was he doing this? Did she know him from somewhere? She didn't think so, but maybe he was friends with her brother, or cousin, and just thought it would be funny to tease her. She doubted it though...she was very good with faces, and she couldn't place his anywhere. Of course she was good with faces because she liked to memorize the interesting ones to paint later. And she had to admit that even though this guy was making her a little sad because he was being so rude, he was also interesting. She would probably end up at least making a rought sketch of him at some point.
Biting her lip the girl crossed her arms. She decided to say something to him. She wasn't going to be rude, or anything like that, she was just going to ask him to stop. Politely, of course. Symphony was an overly polite girl, everyone said so. Some said she was just like some kind of old woman, or something. Not the cranky old mean ones, but the sweet ones who pat the heads of random people and call them dears. "Can you please...stop?" She asked, raising her voice a little bit, although her voice was pretty much shaking with nervousness. She swallowed, then looked down at her drink, hoping the guy hadn't heard her. She shouldn't have said anything. That had been a mistake.

Bored, bored, bored. It was the only real reason he continued to torment this nervious, paranoid looking mess of a girl. She really seemed as though a paper wad would split her in two if it were to hit her in the right angle. Johnny wasn't much of a conversation starter, and fuck breaking the ice. He was being more of a bully than anything right now, and for a moment he thought he was back in highschool. He had always been the rough looking loner kid, the bully without the crew to back him up, but was equally as intimidating without one. He didn't necessarily pick out victims to beat the shit out of, but he did fuck someone up if they really got on his nerves enough. For the most part, he kept to himself, only lashing out with violence when he was provoked.
Sadly, though, this was one of those times he targetted someone. Sorry young blonde girl.
Johnny was leaning down now, arms crossed over the table top with a straw clenched between his lips, full of paper balls. One by one, he shot them at her until she finally rose her timid eyes to him and spoke. Stop, she wanted? Johnny shot a ball right into her iced cappuccino. "Blame it on boredom. I was counting on you to spice it up- pitch a fit and throw your drink on me." He said, voice deep and intimidating. He finally placed the straw down onto the table, though, sitting up from the tabletop to lean into the back of his chair. He made it tilt back on two legs. Johnny had almost started to get high off boredom, or else high off his accumilated cigarette buzzes and alcohol hangovers. But honestly, he was going to fuck with this girl until he got something amusing, or at least a conversation.

Of course she thought it in much nicer words...even in her head she was usually polite without even realizing it. Every now and then she would slip, but most of the time she was equally sweet in her thoughts. Despite what some people thought her niceness wasn't fake...it was really just her. Letting out a loud sigh as she saw the wadded up paper ball fall into her drink, she pushed it away. Had she been any other girls he probably would have demanded he buy her a new one, but she was just Symphony, and so it was more likely that she say nothing...or little to nothing.
"Right..." She muttered, bringing her thumb up to her mouth and biting on the nail. It was her only habit, and a dirty one at that, but she really couldn't stop. "Well, I'm not much of a fit pitching drink pouring kind of girl..." It was her attempt at a joke, of course, and a feeble one at that. Especially seeing as it was said so quietly most would probably just think she was some insane person talking to herself. But she still had a small smile curving onto her lips, even though she was pretty much being harassed by the guy, and no longer had a drink to drink. Or even a reason to stick around, because of her lack of drink, but she really wasn't ready to go back.
The blonde glanced over at the guy who was the reason for her lack of drink and also the reason for the paper that was pretty much all over her table. "My name is Symphony." She said, her politeness heavy in her words, despite the fact that this guy obviously didn't deserve it. She was the type of person who was so polite that they annoyed everyone with it. "It's nice to meet you." Okay, the second part was a lie. A big one. Even if she was nice her day would have been much better without the guy talking to her. Especially as talking to him was pretty damn scary...although surprisingly not as scary as talking to some people. Probably because she knew she didn't have to worry so much what he thought of her, as she didn't think she'd ever see him again. Well, she hoped she never saw him again...of course she wouldn't say that. That would just be rude.

How could someone be so passive aggressive, so quiet when they were being pummeled incessantly with small, surely annoying, spit balls? Moment by moment, Johnny was tumbling back into memories of highschool, when someone would annoy him to this point or when someone thought they had the brawn to stand up to him. They all left limping, because even if his opponent was bigger than him, muscle mass and all, Johnny was smarter. Plus, there was nothing wrong with a little cheating- keeping a small pocket knife in his jeans.
This girl was nothing like the bold, violent, ill-tempered person that he was, perhaps even still is. This was obvious by the time Johnny counted his twentieth paper wad that he shot directly into her drink. He watched with sick pleasure as she pushed the beverage away as if it had been ruined. Even such a small thing like that annoyed Johnny, but at least she talked. Johnny honestly had never tried to make conversation with anyone, at least not really. And here, he wasn't really attempting either. More like just torturing a young girl because he could and because it was amusing to see her almost fall apart at his little act of disturbance.
"Don't lie." He said with a mean chuckle, purposely forgetting to tell her his name. Johnny knew for certain this girl, Symphony, was not happy to meet him in the least. At least she could lie- she wasn't completely pure. "And I don't have some kind of disease. You can still fucking drink that." He informed her, nodding towards the iced cappuccino that she had pushed away with disgust. What a silly little girl.

Mostly her lies were little things like telling people that, no, they didn't look fat in thise jeans, and that their hair looked fine when it was, in fact, a mess. Or telling someone who she found herself liking less and less as the moments went on that it was nice to meet him. It wasn't like she could actually bring herself to dislike him...but there was something about him that scared her. He was intimidating, she realized, although weather or not he was aiming for that she did not know. It was sad, but there was just something that scared her about someone deciding to target her, even if all they were doing was a few harmless spitballs.
"Sorry..." She mumbled. She wasn't about to lie about lying. She'd been caught in a lie, and not a very good one at that, it was no big surprise. She wasn't t he best liar on earth. SHe looked at her drink in a doubtful way. Even if he wasn't carrying any diseases she didn't want to drink something that had paper floating around in it. "I'm...not thirsty." Another lie, another stupid lie, but it was because she didn't want ot hurt the guy's feelings! Even if he was being a complete and total douche packer to her she wasn't about to return the favor, and voice her opinion about how for all she knew he could be carrying several diseases. It ashamed her to even think that way, much less say it out loud. "I should probably be leaving now." She said, sighing and standing up. That wasn't exactly a lie. "This has been...fun." That was.

Johnny rose a brow at her, watching her every move. Any other person, he swore, would have said a lot more by now. Any other person would have screamed at him, or else laughed and moved over to sit and talk with him. If not that, then at least fish the paper out of their drink and not be phased by such a little road block. But Symphony, this young and timid, girl, seemed to have her heart broken from his targeting and softcore bullying. When she apologized for lying, he wanted to laugh at her, but for the first time seemed to bite back something cruel like that. The more he watched her, the more he began to... feel sorry for her. Good god, she must have never had someone be kind to her in her whole that. Either that, or she was terribly sheltered.
"Leaving?" He repeated after her, propping his arms on the table. He'd expected her to try to run off without further damage, but really? He was hoping she would stay for a fight. It had been fun terrorizing her, but now he was beginning to want to coach her into being more bold. After all, watching her be so nervous and shakey, like a dog shitting razor blades, was really starting to piss him off.
Johnny stood, making his way slowly over to her as to not scare her out of her skin. He took a plastic spoon from her table and fished out the paper ball. "You act like you've never come in contact with another person's spit before." He said, calling her out. "How do you deal with kissing someone?" He questioned, his voice harsh and demanding, though at this point he meant no harm.

Back down, cash out, that's the city for ya _________________ Just as she was about to leave she looked up and he was walking over to her. Which, of course, only scared her. What was he going to do? Was he mentally unstable? And why was he walking so slow? When he finally got there it had felt like years rather than seconds, and she was pretty much closing her eyes she was so scared. She was surprised to find that instead of doing something scary he was...actually being kind of nice. At least in her book. Taking the paper ball out of her drink was probably the nicest thing he'd said to her. Too bad what he said next took away from the niceness.
The question caught her off guard. Kissing? She didn't kiss very often. She'd kissed maybe two guys in her life, and then they were just simple kisses. Like the ones you would have seen on television shows from the fifties. It was incredibly sad, really, as she was nineteen years old. She knew that, really, she shouldn't have answered the question. She should have turned around and left, and ignored him. But he had been nice before that, he could be nice, and walking away would just be rude.
"Oh...um..I don't usually...deal with that kind of...stuff..." She managed to mumble out, looking down at her feet, and hoping the answer would suffice and he would leave her alone. She wasn't going to elaborate, or go into great detail, or anything. It was embarrassing enough that she had to say that. Her cheeks were pink with embarrassment, and she felt the sudden urge to chew all of her nails off. But she was trying to quit, she really was, so she forced her arm to stay down at her side.

At the moment, Johnny was being as kind as he knew how. That meant that he wasn't yelling or hitting her, and wasn't talking her down or terrorizing her until she was a shivering mess on the floor of starbucks. Though his voice was as harsh as it always was, and frequent cuss words dripped off his lips, at least he was not trying to drive her out, crying. Though he was being civil, Johnny's true intentions were never as great as his comforting smile. In reality, he had strong urges to corrupt her. He was disgusted by her nervousness, by her passive-aggressive nature. He felt like in order for her to survive, he needed to toughen her up.
Symphony honestly seemed shocked and scared when he walked up to her, even with his targeting her having subsided. Everything scared her, huh? Johnny flicked the wet paper ball off the plastic spoon, and then tossed the spoon back onto the table. He wasn't about to waste those few minutes to throw it away. That's what they had table buffers for. Johnny watched her for awhile, her crippled body language, her hair falling in her face almost as if to hide it.
"Huh?" He muttered after Symphony had admitted she 'didn't deal with that stuff'. Johnny remained silent for awhile after that, but couldn't stifle a snicker that shot out of him like a rocket. "So you've never kissed anyone." He admitted for her in much blunter words. It was not a question, but a statement. Now he knew why she was the way she was- she had never experienced any of the pleasures in life. Not even a mere kiss, the touch of a tongue. "You're so fucking sheltered" He told her, but his tone wasn't cruel as it had been before, it was more gentle, but brutal in its own way.

Why had she even said anything? Why did it matter? Why couldn't he just be more...polite, and not say anything? Actually, after he said the simple 'huh?' she thought maybe he would leave it at that. Maybe even leave her alone. It was more wishful thinking than anything, because after it was clear to her that he was not, in fact, going to leave it at that or leave her alone or anything. Even if he wasn't sounding like a total jerk about it she still didn't like hearing other people say things like that. Especially the part about her never kissing anyone...not only was it not true, but it was embarrassing. Okay, maybe it was kind of true. One of the guys she kissed had been a dare in sixth grade, and the other broke up with her right after because she didn't want to do anything.
"I've kissed two guys." She said, slightly defensively, her lips turned down in a frown. "I've just never...you know..." she trailed off, even though she didn't think he would know at all. He didn't seem like the type to even consider what she had done kissing. It was the kind of kiss your grandmother gave you, really. Pathetic. But maybe now that she had a boyfriend that would change...maybe. "And I'm not sheltered...I'm just..." She didn't really know how to finish the sentence. She wasn't sheltered! Not really. Okay, maybe a little bit, but she sheltered herself, she really did. Not her parents, or anything. Not even her big brother, certainly not her cousin. It was all her doing, really.

Standing next to her, Johnny felt as though he was being blinded by the purity of heaven, even burned. They were polar opposites, black and white, bad and good. Johnny was the devil and Symphony was some kind untouchable angel. He really hoped she knew that innocence couldn't last forever, and Johnny would make sure of that. The way she stood nearly folding over into herself, never looking him in the eye, inching away from him like she was truly, truly indimitated, maybe even completely terrified of him. People like her were meant to be corrupted. Those lips were begging to be touched, bruised from kissing. That body was meant to be loved, that mind meant to be altered from drugs, that tongue meant to taste wine.
"Never had a tongue down your fuckin' throat." He finished for her as she trailed off with an embarassed 'you know'. It wasn't that hard to tell what she was talking about. She'd had chicken peck kisses, but never the real thing. How pathetic. At least he thought so, but that was coming from a man who barely went a day without having sex. "Not sheltered, huh? Then why haven't you kissed some piece o' shit guy, then? You undatable or something?" He accused, trying to get a little something out of her. Even as he did this, his tone really wasn't very harsh anymore. If anything, his voice was soft and comforting, despite his mean words.
Johnny shook his head a bit, not exactly looking for her to answer. She was eager to get away from him, and he wasn't about to grab her by the arm and pin her to a wall just to make her stay and talk to him. He was interested by her, but not that interested. "Weren't you about to leave or something?" He muttered, eyes roaming as if he had grown bored. This was her chance to run off and never return, never look back at him. If she did, he was afraid he would have to turn her into a devil like himself.
