if i am the clock and you are the time i'm patiently waiting and you're out of line! ------------
Symphony didn't particularly enjoy her job. But when her band needed gas money because they were running low, because they'd stupidly spent most of it on booze, it was supposedly her job to sell useless little things that everyone seemed to love so much for money. Of course being Symphony instead of suggesting that she be in charge of the money, as she didn't drink, and therefor she wouldn't blow her money on alcohol, she just kept her mouth shut, and did as the band members said. The band members were always right. That was the first thing to know in her line of business.
"Symphony?" The lead singer yelled at her, from her position in the front of the van. yes, van. They couldn't afford a tour bus...they probably could have if they let Symphony handle the money, but apparently that was not an option. "Yes?" She yelled back, sighing a bit. She knew what was coming. She was supposed to have headed out twenty minutes before to sell the bands merch. "Are you leaving yet?" Symphony nodded. "I'm leaving..." She said, in her quiet voice, as she stood up and got out of the van, taking what she had been working on with her. It was a new design for a new t-shirt. Because not only did she have to sell the merch, but she had to help design it as well. The designing was by far her favorite part.
---
It didn't take long for the girl to reach her destination, even though it was kind of a long way away, and she had to walk. She was pretty quick, despite her short legs. Once she got there she started setting up, emptying out the bags she had been forced to lug along with her, and putting everything out on the stand. T-shirts, stickers, all that good stuff. Half of it she had designed, and now in addition she was going to have to sell it.
Symphony looked around and sighed...it was still too early. No one would actually be there yet, and yet her band had been afraid she was going to be late. She loved her band, she really did, but sometimes she felt as though they were using her. Not without reason, either, Symphony was pretty damn good at getting people to buy their shit. It was probably due to the fact that even if someone had come to the stand to tell her how badly the band sucked she was always nice to them. People who say the nice guys never win had obviously never met Symphony...although Symphony did often wish that she could be a bit different. A bit meaner, maybe. Those hopes were in vain.
once everything was set up she moved in front of the stand, and looked at everything without a look of admiration. Even if she was a lot of negative things one of the positive things about her was that she knew how to make things pretty. Maybe that was another reason why so many people stopped at their stand. She had stacked the t-shirts up so that you could see one of each kind, and yet they looked as though they were on display in some kind of fancy art museum. Most people wouldn't have bothered taking the time to make something to foolish look so nice. But Symphony had enough time...she was early, thanks to her band.
She moved back to behind it, and unfolded the folding chair she had to drag with her. Her band definitely needed to rent a car...but there just wasn't enough damn money. If she were the manager she would have told them to cut the shit...that, and if she weren't Symphony. Symphony knew she would have made a terrible manager.
She then sat down on the chair, and pulled out her cell phone. Now what? This was why she hated being early. She'd rather be late than be early! When you were early there was never anything to do.

I fell right through the cracks and now I'm trying to get back -------- Jacob didn't have anything to do. The band didn't want to practice, he was too tired to go play soccer or something, and didn't have enough money to walk into town and do something. Too bad he was really craving Starbucks. Stupid band mates. Even though they were his friends, he hated what they spent their money on. They couldn't even afford a fucking bus for God's sakes! They were great people and all, great people to be in a band with...just really freaking annoying when it came to spending money. He wasn't the only one who felt that way either. Symphony did too! And true, she wasn't exactly part of the band...she was their merch kid, but Jacob didn't care. He liked Symphony. Really liked her...
So he decided to go see her. After sitting around, bored out of his mind for the past hour, Jake finally got on his feet, pulled a shirt on and walked in the direction of the merch area. Maybe since he was there, all the little fans would want to buy something and get him to autograph it. That would be good for sales, and earn then some money. They needed money. As he walked, his mind wandered to Symphony, as it sometimes did when he wasn't really paying attention. Sure, she was shy...but he liked shy girls. Which was odd, since Jake wasn't a shy person at all. And she was like family to him, which was kind of odd too. But oh well. He liked her. Flirted with her all the time. Heck, he'd even asked her out once. But she had said no. Jake wasn't going to give up though. He'd ask her out until she said yes. He was stubborn like that.
Ten minutes after he had set off, he arrived at the right place. There wasn't many people around, which would hopefully soon change. Symphony had her back to him, so he crept up and poked her in the side lightly. "Hey, cutie." He whispered in her ear, before plopping down in the chair she had brought. Maybe she'd sit in his lap. Probably not. "How's it going, sell anything yet?" He asked, pulling his sunglasses out of his pocket and sliding them on. Man, it was sunny out today. Wearing jeans probably wasn't the smartest idea, but oh well.

if i am the clock and you are the time i'm patiently waiting and you're out of line! ------------
The fact that no one had showed up was starting to annoy Symphony. Where the hell was everyone? They needed money god damn it. But she knew if she waited a little bit longer people would appear...they always did. She was just slightly impatient. She sighed a bit, looking up at the sky, feeling a bit distracted...even more so than usual. And then suddenly she felt a poke...it wasn't a hard poke, it didn't hurt, but she knew exactly who it was the second she heard a oh so familiar voice whisper in her ear, and felt her cheeks start to heat up...she always blushed when Jake flirted with her...she couldn't help it...and even if he had done nothing but call her cutie she still couldn't help her cheeks turning the bright color that they did.
"Um...hey." She said, slowly, turning to see him sitting on the chair. She had been about to sit there...but oh well, she could stand. No big deal. "No, I haven't sold anything yet..." She admitted, feeling as though it were all her fault...after all, she did make the stuff, and sell it, so if no one bought it it was either because she sucked at designing, and sucked at selling. And she didn't want Jake to think she sucked at either one...she wanted him to think she was good at everything...even though she wasn't. And even if it was a stupid thing to want.
She looked around nervously, bringing one of her hands up to her mouth to start chewing on the thumb nail...which was really only something she did when she was nervous. But being around Jake always made her a little bit nervous...not as nervous as she was around some people, but still nervous. Of course it also wasn't in the same way she was nervous around some people. Around most people she was nervous in a way that she was afraid of them...around Jake she was just afraid of her feelings...because even if he had asked her out once, and flirted with her like crazy...well, he flirted with everyone. So she was nothing special to him, other than maybe a good friend, right? of course.
"So...um...how are you doing?" She asked, in her quiet voice. Of course it wasn't as quiet as it would have been if he wasn't her friend, but she was a naturally quiet person. Her brown eyes scanned him momentarily, moving from the brown hair at the top of his head to his torso and down his legs. Everything about his was so familiar. But she didn't let herself look at him for more than a few seconds, before she snapped her eyes back up to his face. Not that she minded looking at his face...she liked his face...his face was nice...

I fell right through the cracks and now I'm trying to get back -------- Jacob knew once he poked her and whispered in her ear she would blush. Heck, he knew even before he got there. Symphony was just a blusher, and it was cute. He loved her blush, he really did. Jake found all blushes cute, actually. Guess that's why he likes the shy girls. But he liked Symphony's the best. But he just wished she would flirt with him to...wished she would break out of her shell just a little bit and tell him how she was feeling about him! Because as much as Jake tried to hide it, it got so hard sometimes. He really never knew how she was feeling. But he couldn't let people know that. He was supposed to be calm, cool and collected. Inside he wasn't though...inside he was all shaken up.
A few people were arriving know. Hopefully they'd buy something. "Well that's no good." He frowned. "What if...we wore the shirts?" He wondered aloud, before stripped off his shirt, yes, right in front of her...hoping that she would do something, before scanning the shirts and picking one out, but being careful not to ruin her lovely display. "Put one on!" He grinned, before looking around the crowd. "Come get your CHARLIE'S KILLER'S items here, then have them autographed!" He yelled loudly, a grin still on his face.
Jake turned back to Symphony. "Problem solved." He smirked, watching her bring her thumb up and start biting on it. "You know, biting your nails isn't good," He scolded, jokingly. "Someone as pretty as you shouldn't do things like that!" Jacob said, chuckling. He slipped a hand around her waist, gripping it a bit more tightly then he would if she were just some other girl. He walked forward to the table, where people were slowly beginning to notice, thanks to the yelling. Jeeze, why were these people so slow?
"I was bored...now I'm good." He said, grinning down at her. He was actually close enough to kiss her...not that he would. He'd wait until she agreed to go out with him, though, it might be hard waiting. But he would do it. Jacob could be patient...if he tried. "And how are you doing, Miss. Symphony?" He asked, his arm still around her waist.

if i am the clock and you are the time i'm patiently waiting and you're out of line! ------------
As she watched him take his shirt off her eyes widened...she knew she should have looked away, but she really couldn't help it. Luckily, though, she tore her eyes away as soon as she could, and she didn't think he'd seen her staring. That would have been a little...well, awkward. Probably. She shook her head as he told her to put one on, a little bit of a smile playing at her lips. "I'm not a guy, remember? I can't just pull my shirt off in public..." She mumbled, pulling on a piece of her blonde hair. "I think you wearing it should be enough, anyway..."
Sure enough his yelling did attract a lot of attention, much to her pleasure. Of course it also attracted a lot of giggling fan girls to look at him, which kind of annoyed her...they didn't know anything about him! Well, other than what they read about when they googled him...which they probably did, those creepy little stalkers. But Symphony knew more...he was her best friend, after all, it was only natural that she knew more about him than strangers. But the fact that they even looked at him made her feel something...jealous? Probably. But feeling his arm around her waist made her smile reappear on her face...maybe they would stop their staring...and just buy a t-shirt, so they could have food money, after Drew had blown it all on alcohol? Food was probably a good idea...but she couldn't really blame Drew. He had an issue...even if he claimed not to...
"I'm good. I'll be great if someone buys something..." She said, looking up at him for a moment...although instead of looking into her eyes like a normal person she found herself looking at his lips. She wanted to kiss them...but she wouldn't. That would be wrong...that would be bad...plus she was probably a horrible kisser. She didn't know, no one had ever said anything about it...and she hadn't kissed many people at all...
Then, as though on cue someone walked over to them, and asked for a t-shirt. Symphony turned her head away from Jacob, and looked at the person. It was a girl, probably only fourteen or fifteen years old. Symphony shot her a polite smile, gave her the shirt she requested, and took her money, giving her the proper amount of change. "I should bring you to work more often..." She mumbled, glancing back at Jake before she putting the money away. "You're good for business."

I fell right through the cracks and now I'm trying to get back -------- Jacob looked at her while changing his shirt and caught her staring for a second. He smiled and set his old shirt on the chair. "Well, I sure wouldn't mind if you took your shirt off." He said, winking. Well, okay, he would mind. Jake didn't want other people staring at her! He wanted to be the only one allowed to stare at her. Even though...well, people already stared at her. Not that Symphony would ever realize that. Not like she knew how beautiful she was, and that if she just opened up a bit, she would be snatched up before she knew it. But Jacob didn't want her to be snatched up. He wanted her to be his. "Come on, put it on over your other shirt." He smiled, handing her one.
He barely even noticed all the girls coming up. He really never did anymore. Sure, it had been exciting and great at the beginning, but trust him, it got old. And annoying. I mean, girls throwing themselves at you is good at first...then it got kind of scary. Some of them were just kind of freaky! Sure, some of them were hot, but it wasn't like Jake could date a fan. He was on tour now. They didn't understand his schedule. But Symphony understood it. Hell, Symphony was on the tour with him! Which rocked...cause well, they were always together, which some people would find bad. But not him. They were close enough they pretty much never got sick of each other.
"Of course someone will buy something, look at all the people coming over!" He grinned, keep his arm around her waist. Jake did notice a few girls glaring at Symphony, so he winked at them, making the girls smile and blush. He didn't want the fans to be angry! And besides, he was a flirt by nature. It wasn't as if he liked them. He liked Symphony, and only her. Now if only she could agree to go out with him. Maybe if Jacob asked now she'd say yes. It had been a few weeks since he had last asked. She could of changed her mind. He hoped so.
"So, Symphony, how about you, me and Starbucks after? My treat." He grinned. Of course, Jacob would have to snag a twenty from their selling today...but hopefully she wouldn't notice. He'd pay it back once he got enough money, he really would! "Of course I'll come work with you." Jacob laughed. "There's no one I'd rather spend my time with, just give me the times." He grinned, before handing some change to a girl around sixteen. She continued staring at him in a...slightly creeping matter, so Jacob smiled and winked at her, making her happy enough to finally leave.

if i am the clock and you are the time i'm patiently waiting and you're out of line! ------------
A sigh escaped the girls lips, but she took the shirt anyway, and slid it on over her head, pulling it down over her shirt. It was really way too hot, but she hated saying no to people...especially Jake...that didn't mean she wouldn't say no to them, but she preferred not to unless it was really something she couldn't do, or really, really didn't want to. And sweating to death wasn't really that bad...plus, it was just a t-shirt, really. It was even loser than the one she was already wearing, so it hardly added any heat at all. Had she been anyone else she probably would have replied with a sarcastic happy? but she was just Symphony, and so all she did was pull her long hair out of the neck of the t-shirt, and hope that the blush left over from his comment about how he wouldn't mind seeing her shirtless looked as though her cheeks were just turning red from the heat...
Seeing him wink and flirt with all the other girls didn't really surprise her...he was Jake, it was normal, she'd seen it a ton of times...but it did make her jealous, and kind of annoy her. That was why she knew she could never date him...well, one of the many reasons. Even if he was interested in her...he seemed equally interested in everyone else, too, it was really just confusing. But at the end of the day she told herself that he really didn't like her in that way...he was just...being Jake...and the asking her out thing was just because he wanted a challenge...or something. Or so she told herself repedidly whenever she considered just pouring her heart out to him...but she'd never do that! The last time she'd actually said everything she felt, everything she thought even, it hadn't ended up well.
She had to admit, though, he was certainly attracting attention. That was one thing she would have hated about being in a band...all the attention. While some people thrived on it dear little Symphony preferred to stand behind those who did, and just hope in vain that she didn't get noticed. Although she secretly kind of liked the few times she did get noticed...mostly she was glad that her plan worked. Of course she didn't realize that it didn't really work completely...she didn't realize that actually a few heads did turn when she walked into a room. There was just something about her that screamed look at me! to some people...probably because she hated being looked at so much.
Yet another sigh was heard from the girl as he asked her out...she wanted to say yes, she wanted to so badly, but she knew she wouldn't. She couldn't. And so she just gave the girl who had been looking at Jacob as though she wanted to keep him in her closet for a play toy an odd look, and stayed quiet for a few moments. "I...don't think that's a good idea...the starbucks thing, that is..." She said, quietly, passing a t-shirt to someone who was requesting one, and taking his money. No change this time, he had the exact amount. "Would..would you please move your arm?" She muttered, almost too quietly for him to hear, as she put the money in it's place. She wanted to slap herself for saying that...she didn't really want him to move his arm, god damn it!

I fell right through the cracks and now I'm trying to get back -------- Jacob could tell she wasn't very happy right now, and he felt kind of bad. Why did he have to push her like that, couldn't get just leave her alone? No. Of course he couldn't, because he was stupid. He knew Symphony wouldn't say no to him though, wouldn't say no to anyone. Jake wished that for once she would just speak her mind. Stand up for herself. Tell him how she was feeling. But he knew something like that would probably be...a miracle. All she would do is sigh and hide her feelings, which Jake knew was bad. Bottling up your feelings like that could lead to bad things. Not that he would know...he always told people how he was feeling. Well, except now. Symphony knew he liked her, but she didn't know just how much he did like her.
Because, well, he liked her a lot. So much that if they were going out...he wouldn't even flirt with another girl. And that was saying something...since with every other girlfriend he had had, Jake had always flirted with other girls, which had annoyed the crap out of the girls. But with Symphony, it would be different. He wouldn't look at another girl. His attention would all be on Symphony. Well, if she wanted all that attention. Most likely she wouldn't. So maybe he would be allowed to look at girls...but he would not flirt with them, no he would not!
When he had first started getting more noticed, Jacob had loved the attention. Hell, he still did, he just didn't notice it as much. He was only the drummer, so he certainly didn't get as much attention as the singers and guitarists do. But he still go enough. Enough for him at least. Other times he wished he could go back to being a nobody. Well, no, he wasn't exactly a nobody, he did have some friends when he was younger, despite how much he and his family traveled and how he was home schooled. But that was beside the point. He didn't have as much attention back then. But then again...if he wasn't in this band, he probably wouldn't have met Symphony...and that would have sucked.
Jacob could tell the moment she sighed it was going to be a no. And even though he played it cool, shrugged it off...it still hurt. All rejection hurt. If rejection didn't hurt someone...well, they were just weird. "Fine." He muttered, sighing a bit himself. "It didn't have to be a date or anything...can't two friends go grab a coffee?" Jake asked her. "Or am I not even your friend, Symphony." He said, snapping a little. Okay...that was harsh and Jake regretted saying it. Then she asked him to remove his arm from around her waist. He just sighed, much like she had, and pulled it away, crossing his arms over his chest. Usually, he would have put his arms around her shoulders or something. But he was done for the day. Annoyed and...slightly heart broken. Why couldn't she just like him goddamit!?

if i am the clock and you are the time i'm patiently waiting and you're out of line! ------------
What he said made her feel like she was being poked in the heart repedidly with a needle...she had to force her eyes not to tear up. Why was he being so...mean? And she felt guilty for some reason...like it was her fault that he was being mean to her, like she should be the one saying sorry, not him. But why would he even ask that? He knew that he was her best friend...didn't he? Surely he understood why she wouldn't date him...right? And they both knew that he had been asking for a date...it was obvious. Why couldn't he just stop? Although even if she wouldn't admit it Symphony would be hurt if he stopped...even if she told herself that she would never give in. It was slightly horrible of her, and she knew it, but she liked when he asked her out, and flirted with her...even if she always said no, and never, ever flirted back. It still made her feel all warm and tingly inside...until he got all jerk-ish after, that just made her sad.
"Of course you're my friend..." She said, pretty much whispering. Her voice always got more quiet when she was upset. She started rearranging the display, trying to distract herself so the tears that were threatening to spill over wouldn't escape her eyes. Of course Jacob's flirty nature was another reason she knew that she could never date him...she would get jealous, but she would never say anything. Just like she never said anything about how much she liked him...about how much she had liked him pretty much ever since they'd met, back when she was just Milo's little sister, and he was just Milo's friend.
The girl wiped a tear away that had managed to escape, and then glanced at Jake, hoping he hadn't noticed. She liked to remain composed at all times...well, most of the time. She'd had a few times in her life when she had just broken down...but she usually did that in the privacy of her own room. Not that she had a room anymore...or very much privacy...there was no room for privacy on tour, it seemed. But there also wasn't much room for loneliness, as there were always people around. Not that Symphony cared...even if people were great she still needed alone time. And she didn't really get that much anymore.
She just wanted Jacob to leave...okay, no she didn't, but she was trying to tell herself to tell him to leave. In a nice way, of course. But as she opened her mouth to ask him to, as politely as possible nothing came out, and she just ended up staring at him like a fish trying to catch the little flakes of food that the humans dropped into the tank. She quickly closed her mouth, glad that someone had walked up and requested a t-shirt, and turned towards the customer, plastering a fake smile upon her face, and passing the boy, who was probably only thirteen years old, the t-shirt in his size. She wondered where his parents were...or an older sibling, or something. Thirteen was really too young...but it wasn't her business, and so she just took his change, gave him the money, and told him to have a nice day, all while making sure not to glance at Jake.

I fell right through the cracks and now I'm trying to get back -------- Jacob sighed. He could tell she was now upset, and he hated himself for making her upset in the first place. He was such an idiot! He so could have kept that comment to himself. Jake knew better than to talk to people like that, especially girls. His parents had raised him right, you know! But it was too late to take that comment back now. It hung in the air around them like...like death or something. And death sucked...just like the comment he had made. "Symphony..." He said quietly. "I-I'm sorry. I-I didn't mean it." Jake said. He was stuttering now, a sure sign he felt bad. Whenever he felt bad...he stuttered.
He knew he probably wasn't being fair to her. Flirting with her...asking her out, then going and flirting with all those stupid fans! Okay, the fans weren't stupid, they helped them get where they were today, but...he was just a flirty person! And Jake hated that about himself. Symphony probably did too. Fuck, she probably just hated him in general, but was just too nice too say anything. And Symphony hating someone was rare...because she was just too sweet! Which was what Jacob loved about her...he really did. He loved everything about her.
Jake did notice her wipe away that tear and he sighed, pulling her into a hug. "Don't be sad...please." He whispered, not even noticing the few fan girls who had come up to the table, a camera in one hand and money in the other. He really wasn't in the mood to take pictures right now. He was feeling...horrible. He had made Symphony cry for God's sakes! Reluctantly, he let Symphony go and turned towards the girls. "Sorry, no pictures today..." He said with a small apologetic smile on his face. He turned back towards Symphony and ran a hand through his hair, feeling awkward.
"So...I should probably go...see if the band wants to practice." He muttered, grabbing his other shirt off the chair. "I'll, uh, pay for this in a couple days, okay?" Jacob asked her, indicating the Charlie's Killer shirt he had put on earlier. "See you around." He said, and walked off towards the van, feeling like a complete idiot.
