Unlike most people that just rented one place to live at, Lou had to rent out two places, one for where he slept at night which was a nice little cozy apartment with few things inside of it because he was always traveling, and the other a small industrial space where he kept the large amount of electronics and equipment he used for his job. When people entered this space, which he visited far more often then his small one bedroom apartment, they found electronic equipment lying absolutely everywhere in a big heap of mess except for the front area which contained a small desk with a computer and some sort of old school cash register at the front of it. This area was kept nice and tidy for new customers that came in and he had a nice cheap sign at the door that advertised his name, number, and “Guitar Tech and Equipment Repair”. He didn’t make it look to fancy though because he didn’t bother spending the money, knowing most who came here came because they knew he was good at his job.
He had called Ransom in a rush that day acting all excited. “Get on down to my shop when you can. I got a nice gift for you. Trust me you wanna check this out today.” He had always liked Ransom, it was one of his best friends, and although he never admitted it out loud out of fear of being rejected it was clear he had a pretty big crush on Ransom which was why he consistently found excuses for Ransom to come over. It was sort of cute how he could get timid around Ransom sometimes because he usually acted so laid back around others but with Ransom he always wanted to impress the guy but could never find a way how. Lou didn’t over excaudate or act different around him compared to others, it was just he knew Ransom was liked by a lot of people, big band members and others he probably could relate more to so he couldn’t do anything to get his attention.
Sitting on a guitar stand around his front desk was an Atlas SM5 Five string acoustic bass, a rare find usually worth about $2100 when a person was lucky enough to find one. Lou had been searching a pawnshop earlier before like he usually did looking for great discounts on speakers and small electronic parts usually broken when sold to the pawnshop owner that he could get for a cheap price and use for parts for repairing equipment in the future. He had entered this particular pawnshop and found this particular bass for only $40 and although he didn’t play guitar he understood how to build them and automatically understood that this bass in particular was a rare find. The fact alone that it was a five string acoustic bass for only $40 stuck out to him but when he looked up more information later he discovered just how much the bass was really worth and his first reaction was to give it to a friend that would respect it. Did Ransom play the music that usually needed a five string acoustic? As far as he knew no but that didn’t mean it wouldn’t gleam in the eyes of any bass player.
Not having any idea when Ransom would come or even if the guy got his voice message to come that day he continued doing his regular day chores which at the moment consisted of sorting out different pieces of speaker parts he had pulled apart and putting them into the right shelves where he had those parts in bundles. As much of a mess his place was he was consistently trying to organize it so everything was in order. It was like a kid with a messy room; although it may look like a heap of junk to a normal person to him everything was exactly where he wanted it to be.
