It had been a pretty usual day for Lou so far as he spent the majority of it listening to his favorite classic rock tunes and fixing equipment and talking to his customers. One reason he made such a good band tech was he wasn't afraid to engaged in conversation with his customers, usually about the equipment they brought into his shop and how they could avoid breaking the equipment next time or why it broke to begin with. He was so good with everything that he was usually able to just look at the equipment and tell why it was broken. Since it was a usual day he figured he'd also be spending his nights patching equipment and doing what he usually did these days, which didn't add up to to much when he wasn't setting up equipment for one of the bands he was hired to help
When Emily had come to his shop with an expensive broken microphone he wasn't to sure if he be able to fix it and let her know that but agreed to try to fix it right away as she looked on. It was a ribbon microphone and he had worked with these sons of bitches before. Although they had without question the best sound that could ever come out of a microphone they seemed to break like paper and during any rock concert it was understandable that they would break all the time. As they sat together that afternoon Emily had mentioned that she was part of the band Run, Forrest.
Excited that she came from that band he tried to impress her with his knowledge. He had seen the band a few times live before and was sort of honored the lead singer came here to try to get her equipment fixed. When he had asked her what gig she had planned for that night and he learned that she had nothing planned for that night he thought of the perfect plan, he had got free concert tickets to a popular local band in the area. He had recently volunteered his time setting up their equipment very last minute last week when their regular crewmembers canceled and they owed the favor. Not having a lot of cash though they had nothing to repay him with but tickets to their show tonight. Right at the moment when Emily agreed to go out with him to see the band it was then he discovered just what was wrong with the microphone. “Oh, this is an easy problem to fix. The problem is in the receiver not the ribbon so I can fix this for you right away.” Living up to his promise it took him only a few minutes tearing apart of the mic with a soddering gun and then putting it back together again. Then taking an XLR chord to an amp he plugged it in to test it and his voice boomed over the room, which meant he got it working again. Hand her back the mic he had a big smile on his face, impressed he just got a date with the lead singer of Run, Forest. “See you tonight, try to avoid ribbon mics at your next concert, they sound flawless but in the end there’s a higher chance they’ll just break down on you on stage.”
Finally the night came as people were flooding into the crowded mosh pit area, prepared for a rocking night at the stage. He was ten minutes late but as he got there he couldn’t find Emily anywhere, he hoped she herself was just a little bit late and wasn’t going to show him up. He knew she wasn’t that type of person when he met her though because being a lead singer of a major band meant having to be as social as possible so he continued to look for her. He could see the band starting to set up though, this time they had their regular crew which was nice to see, and one of the guitarist even gave him a wink as he saw him in the crowd, but even still as he walked around he couldn’t find Emily anywhere. It had only been 10 to 15 minutes though since when they agreed to meet, there was a large crowd that made it difficult to find other people, so he knew most of his worries was dumb. Even if she didn't come in the end at least he was going to a really good rock show with a good band. It wasn't his type of music but that didn't bother him because although he mostly only listened to one genre, classic rock, he understood everybody's taste was different and it was good to come together once in a while to celebrate that.
